TOYOTA SIGNS A THREE-YEAR PARTNERSHIP WITH WOORDFEES

Toyota South Africa Motors (TSAM) is proud to announce a three-year partnership with the Stellenbosch University (US) Woordfees. Consequently, this arts and culture extravaganza will be known as the Toyota US Woordfees.

TSAM acquired the co-naming rights to the Woordfees alongside Stellenbosch University for the next three years. With this massive injection into one of the biggest arts festivals in the country, Toyota breaks new ground in the field of multi-lingual arts and culture.

According to Lettie Labuschagne, General Manager of Marketing Communications at TSAM:

“From the founding of the company all those years ago by Dr A.J.J. Wessels, Toyota has always been a champion of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) projects, ranging from education initiatives at schools and universities to arts-and-cultural-themed events. Therefore this partnership is very special to us as it enables Toyota to play an even bigger role in the development and recognition of arts and culture in our society – we’re taking our contribution to the community to a whole new level. Added to this, to be able to tap into the creative energy of the festival that caters to as broad an audience as possible is a great opportunity for us.

“For TSAM, being an integral part of Woordfees not only allows Toyota to showcase the immensely rich diversity and inclusivity of South Africa’s creative arts and culture, but it also provides the organisation an opportunity to nurture up-and-coming talent by offering them a a very visible platform for creative exposure. Above all it’s a week-long event that gives all South Africans, regardless of their background, an opportunity to really enjoy themselves and experience a variety of performances under ‘one roof’ – it’s an altogether uplifting experience.”

Dr Leslie van Rooi, Senior Director of Social Impact and Transformation at Stellenbosch University, says: “Woordfees stands for artistic excellence and the cultivation of greater understanding between communities through the arts. Toyota is not only investing in arts and culture, but also in a project committed to bringing about a freer and more inclusive society.”

Saartjie Botha, Director of the US Woordfees, is equally enthusiastic about this new partnership with a brand that most South Africans regard as iconic. “Our audiences are warm, inquisitive, open to new experiences and ready for adventure. The festival contributes to audience development and the consolidation of the cultural industry. It also creates new platforms for emerging artists. And with a sponsor like Toyota, we have so many new possibilities,” says Botha.

The 2020 Toyota US Woordfees takes place from 6 to 15 March 2020 in Stellenbosch, and tickets will be available from 18 November 2019.
